It’s been quite a while since we built Emacs from source on the Mac,but 25.1 has been official release, not to mention macOS (really?)Sierra to muddy the waters, so let’s take it for another spin.

As usual, you need Xcode(free in the Mac App Store)to build. But, you already have that, right?

I'm attempting to re-install Ruby 1.9.3 with a patch that will allow me to use ruby-debug. When following the instructions and running. Rvm reinstall 1.9.3 -patch debug -force-autoconf It runs through and after applying the patch spits out. R for Mac OS X. This directory contains binaries for a base distribution and packages to run on Mac OS X (release 10.6 and above). Mac OS 8.6 to 9.2 (and Mac OS X 10.1) are no longer supported but you can find the last supported release of R for these systems (which is R 1.7.1) here.Releases for old Mac OS X systems (through Mac OS X 10.5) and PowerPC Macs can be found in the old directory.

You also need Autoconfand Automake. The simpleapproach is to get them from Homebrew:

And don’t panic, make install build the application bundle, itdoesn’t actually install anything. When make finishes, the app willhave build as nextstep/Emacs.app. To take it for a test drive:
